Supporting choices and voices in birth: Ciara’s “why”

For me, the path to becoming a birth worker is deeply intertwined with my own journey of healing, empowerment, and reclaiming sovereignty over my body and wellness.

Ciara Love is a recipient of the Global Doula Project scholarship. In October 2024 she attended Sumi’s Touch, a traditional birth worker training located in Chicxulub, Mexico.

Through my experiences as a womb wellness guide, I’ve witnessed firsthand the incredible transformation that occurs when women reconnect with the sacred wisdom within their bodies. Birth work feels like a natural extension of this—holding space for others as they navigate one of the most intimate and profound rites of passage in life.

I am pursuing this work because I believe in the power of community and the importance of nurturing a woman's voice and choices during the birthing process.

Supporting women in birthing not only new life but new versions of themselves, and seeing them reclaim their strength and intuition, inspires me every day. I feel called to be a part of that process, providing care, guidance, and a compassionate presence in those sacred moments.

For me, birth work is about honoring the divine connection between body, spirit, and life itself—guiding others as they embrace their full power and potential.

The Global Doula Project is a nonprofit organization working for a world where every family receives loving, nonjudgmental support at the beginning and end of life. By providing scholarships for aspiring doulas to complete training, we aim to remove economic barriers and increase support for families, worldwide.
