All families deserve support. We are not meant to parent alone. We are not meant to grieve alone.

Global Doula Project is here to bring the village back during sacred times.

The moment that a soul enters this world is sacred. It is full of mystery. Where did this baby come from? Who are they? Parents need time and support in order to heal and adapt to a new life. Similarly, when a soul leaves this world, the same kind of support is needed, both for the dying individual as well as for their families. Where will I go when I die? Where is my loved one? How can I go on? Again, there is mystery, and we can feel lost without support. Unfortunately, many of us have forgotten how important this support is for our physical and mental health. Doulas are a modern version of perhaps what used to be the community helper, the auntie, the teacher, the hand holder, or the family member that didn’t judge when all that was needed was a shoulder to cry on or someone to talk to.

We are committed to eliminating health disparities based on race, ethnicity, or income.

Sometimes, parents have to say goodbye to their babies too soon. The Global Doula Project stands by these parents. You should not have to grieve alone.

Isolation is a modern problem.

Until recent years, times around birth and death were times when the community reached out to help.

A community of support is essential for maintaining our mental health.

The end of life is a journey into the unknown, just like birth.

When the end of life is near, support is crucial both for the person dying as well as their family members. The Global Doula Project supports end of life doula services.

Parents who find themselves alone during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum may seek support in the form of a doula. But hiring a doula is still a new phenomenon. Many people do not know where to find a doula, or that they even exist.

Some people understand the value of doula care and social support and are able to afford this service if they find themselves alone during the transformational times around birth. Some insurance companies are beginning to cover birth doula support, but doula care for all is not yet woven into the fabric of our society.

The Global Doula Project aims to make doula support accessible to all, starting with our doula grants program. It is our goal to educate others on their importance so that hiring a doula and seeking social support is acceptable, expected, and affordable.
